Andrea Krygier, R. Psych

Hi, I’m Andrea Krygier and thanks for joining me! With nearly three decades of dedicated practice in Psychoanalysis, I bring forth a wealth of experience rooted in compassion, respect, and expertise. My journey in this field has been a profound exploration of the human psyche, driven by a deep-seated desire to alleviate suffering and foster profound healing.

Specializing in a diverse array of mental health concerns, I have cultivated a therapeutic approach that transcends mere treatment; it’s a holistic journey of self-discovery and empowerment. Each session is a sacred space where clients are invited to explore the depths of their emotions, fears, and aspirations, guided by my unwavering support and expertise.

At the core of my practice lies a profound commitment to helping individuals navigate the complexities of existence. From depression and anxiety to PTSD and chronic illness, I specialize in empowering clients to embrace life’s inevitable pains while liberating themselves from unnecessary suffering caused by distorted perceptions and interpretations.

The following graphic borrowed from the principles of Stoicism illustrates the difference between pain versus suffering that characterizes the psychoanalytical work I do with my clients.

Calgary Psychologist Clinic - Stoicism Principles

Imagine facing the loss of a job – a daunting prospect fraught with uncertainty and anxiety. In such moments, it’s crucial to discern between the inherent pain of the situation and the additional layers of suffering stemming from self-doubt, fear of inadequacy, or unhealthy coping mechanisms. Through the transformative power of psychoanalysis, we embark on a journey of self-discovery and healing, unraveling the intricacies of the human mind and paving the way for profound growth and resilience.

Drawing from a rich tapestry of therapeutic modalities, including cognitive-behavioral, narrative, and culturally sensitive perspectives, I tailor my approach to meet the unique needs of each client. Whether grappling with marital separation, navigating fertility issues, or confronting existential crises, I provide a safe and nurturing environment for individuals, couples, and families to explore, heal, and grow.

My methodology is not one-size-fits-all; it’s a collaborative process informed by empathy, understanding, and clinical expertise. Together, we embark on a journey of self-discovery and healing, illuminating the path towards a brighter, more enriched quality of life.

Fluent in both English and Spanish, I offer virtual therapy sessions to accommodate diverse backgrounds and lifestyles. Whether you’re seeking relief from chronic fatigue and pain or navigating the complexities of LGBTQIA struggles, I am here to guide you with compassion, wisdom, and unwavering support.

I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to embark on this transformative journey with you, fostering a therapeutic alliance grounded in empathy, understanding, and profound insight. Together, let’s navigate the depths of the human experience and emerge stronger, wiser, and more resilient than ever before.

Antecedentes de Andrea

I’m fortunate to have trained in both North American and European/South American approaches to counseling. My eclectic method incorporates solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral, narrative, social, and psychoanalytical components to address clients’ presenting issues, both short-term and long-term.

My work is all about empowering clients to see things differently and make positive choices before taking action. Through challenging their beliefs and self-labeling, I help clients overcome their fear of change and re-position their approach to life. I not only provide solutions to current problems but also equip clients with the skills to navigate future issues by considering external factors that influence behavior and beliefs.

After studying in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I immigrated to Canada and became a registered Psychologist in 1999. My specialty lies in providing psychoanalytic treatment for a range of issues, including depression, anxiety, work stress, existential crises, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anger management, chronic pain, and couple challenges.

In my work with clients, I help them differentiate between the inevitable “pain” of life and the optional “suffering.” By empowering them to deal with the former in fulfilling, growth-promoting ways, I foster resilience, freedom, and creativity.

My approach involves using psychoanalysis as a primary modality alongside cognitive, dialectical behavior, solution-focused, and narrative therapies, which I refer to as “Re-positioning.” This learning process of self-awareness and attitude change helps clients achieve internal transformation and let go of suffering while promoting healing.
