Danielle Yoo, R. Psych
Hi, I’m Danielle.
I am a Registered Psychologist who believes that meaningful therapy begins with feeling safe, understood, and respected. My approach is warm, collaborative, strengths-based, and practical. I work with adults in individual and couples counselling, helping clients better understand what they are experiencing, recognize their strengths, and develop new ways of responding to the challenges in their lives.
I support adults experiencing concerns such as anxiety, depression and other mood concerns, stress and burnout, trauma-related symptoms, emotional regulation difficulties, relationship challenges, self-esteem concerns, and major life transitions. I also bring many years of experience supporting people with ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, and other forms of neurodiversity, which has shaped my understanding of the many different ways people experience and navigate the world.
I believe that each person’s story needs to be understood in context. Our relationships, culture, family, environment, experiences, and the systems around us can all influence how we understand ourselves and respond to difficult situations. I strive to provide culturally responsive care that respects these differences rather than assuming there is one right way to think, feel, communicate, or heal.
My therapeutic approach is integrative and tailored to each client. I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, somatic approaches, trauma-informed interventions, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). Together, we can determine which approaches best fit your needs, preferences, and goals.
For couples, I provide a respectful and collaborative space to explore relationship patterns, communication, conflict, emotional needs, and the experiences that may be shaping how partners respond to one another. My goal is not to decide who is right or wrong, but to help couples better understand their patterns, strengthen communication, and work toward healthier and more meaningful ways of relating.
My professional background spans more than two decades in community, accessibility, inclusion, post-secondary, and mental-health settings. Since 2022, I have worked at a counselling centre within a post-secondary institution, providing psychotherapy, mental-health assessment, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and psychoeducation. Before moving into post-secondary counselling, I spent many years working in accessibility and inclusion, supporting neurodivergent students and people with disabilities and collaborating with clients, healthcare providers, educators, and community partners to reduce barriers and support wellbeing.
These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for resilience and for the many different paths people take through change. Whether you are struggling with something that has happened recently, a pattern that has followed you for years, a relationship that feels stuck, or simply a sense that life is not working the way you would like it to, therapy can provide a place to understand what is happening and begin moving toward something different.
I provide counselling in English and Korean. At Best Choice, I offer in-person appointments at both our South and North Calgary offices, as well as online video counselling.
